The item upgrade lets players increase the gear rating of an item by up 700 points and also add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.

Upgrades to weapons also alter the stats of their base. While this is usually an excellent thing however, it could have negative effects as well. For items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs for instance) upgrading them can make them unusable unless you happen to have an extremely fortunate roll.

Armor items can also be upgraded to boost their performance. In the case of a helm or chest, it will boost its defense base while gloves and belts increase their strength and dexterity. Armor also has an option to reroll its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it may roll back to a lower number.

The upgrade template for a weapon will display the new stats it will gain upon upgrading and their relative values. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike for 3 times less often as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is also possible by pressing the green button on the item menu using the circling arrows. This will roll the item and alter its stats however, it will not reset the weapon's level nor connect to the status of your account.

Armor

Making a few improvements to your armor can make a an enormous difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets offer massive improvements in the resistance to curses, poisons, fire, and magic. This makes it easier to get through difficult areas. The more defense your character is, the more value you will get from each point of health therefore it is important to improve your armor as often as you can.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four fountains in all and each one requires you to complete a unique side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. After you've completed the main quest, and the corresponding fountains, you can talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.

Each piece of armor can be upgraded to three levels and the amount of materials and Rupees required for each level will differ. For instance the Champion Leathers could be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, providing you enough protection to withstand a full on raid with a handful of friends.

Be aware that armor can't be upgraded in the same manner as weapons, so you'll need to focus on upgrading it for physical power if you're Warrior or Spell Power if you're Mage.  item upgrades  should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

Potions

Upgrades to trinkets are an affordable alternative to buying a new one. One can upgrade a trinket with as little 12 tokens. The new trinket comes with the same base level as the old trinket, but it also comes with an additional 1% bonus upgrade.

Once the old Trinkets are no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase both their power and value with time. They can be traded among players which makes them a good alternative to gold.

In general, players should upgrade their most important items first. This means that the best-in slot items for each class are first upgraded before their secondary gear, and then other equipment that they will not replace anytime soon (such as a ring or an cloak). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when selecting which items to upgrade. For instance If Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should be focusing on upgrading their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and chest.
